The Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, kicks off late in January to mid February on the western calendar. The Chinese lunar calendar is a 12-year rotational zodiac that focuses on one of a dozen different animals. The Chinese calendar is centuries older than the western Gregorian calendar. CNY starts on February 10 in 2013; it's the Year of the Snake ("she" in Chinese).
